Kolan

Kolan is a consumer finance app that issues USD, EUR and GBP receive accounts for freelancers in the Global South, holds balances in stablecoins, and layers virtual cards plus crypto, perpetual futures and prediction markets on the same balance.1 It was selected for Circle’s inaugural Developer Grant Program (Arc / USDC) as payments infrastructure for emerging markets.

History

Kolan launched to give non-U.S. workers in 50–100+ countries a compliant way to get paid in dollars and euros without correspondent-bank delays. Circle’s grant programme highlighted the same freelancer pain that Roam, Karsa and Payoneer target. The product then expanded from “get paid” into trading and event markets so one account covers earn, hold, speculate and spend.

Model

Kolan uses banking partners for named fiat accounts and stablecoins for the held balance. It is a fintech front end, not a chartered bank. Availability is marketed globally with KYC from day one.

Products

Local bank-detail deposits in USD, EUR or GBP; Apple Pay and crypto funding; virtual cards that spend the Kolan balance directly; spot crypto and memecoins; perpetual futures; and prediction markets.
