SurgePay
SurgePay is a stablecoin-first payments app for African freelancers, diaspora senders and cross-border traders. Incorporated in the United States (SurgePay Inc., Delaware) with Lagos operations, it launched in 2026 as a single place to receive, hold, send and spend USD and local currencies, and later won a six-figure Stellar Community Fund award.1
History
The company positioned itself against fragmented remittance-plus-USD-wallet stacks, citing Africa’s large diaspora fee burden. TechCabal covered the February 2026 launch; by April it reported live volume (on the order of $150,000 over two months in one account) and Stellar backing to scale Stellar-network settlement into Nigerian banks and mobile money.2
Model
SurgePay is a crypto-rail wallet with local on/off-ramps, not a chartered bank. Settlement on Stellar is meant to cut correspondent-bank time and cost (the company has claimed ~3% all-in versus ~9% industry remittance averages). Compliance is described via international partners rather than a published full-bank licence.
Products
Multi-currency wallets (USD and NGN, with more African currencies advertised), virtual cards, instant stablecoin-to-naira conversion, remittances into 20+ Nigerian banks and mobile money, and P2P between Surge wallets.
