Toss
Toss is a South Korean financial super-app operated by Viva Republica. It began as a peer-to-peer transfer service and expanded into banking, investing, insurance and credit. Toss Bank, its licensed internet bank, is a primary peer to KakaoBank.1
History
Toss launched in 2015 popularising simple mobile remittances in Korea. Viva Republica later won an internet-bank licence for Toss Bank, extending the brand from payments into full deposit banking while the parent app remained a multi-product finance hub.2
Founder
Lee Seung-gun founded Viva Republica / Toss and led its expansion from P2P transfers into one of Korea’s defining consumer fintech brands and a licensed internet bank.
Toss Bank
Toss Bank holds a Korean internet banking licence. The Toss consumer app also distributes non-bank financial products, blending super-app distribution with a regulated deposit franchise—similar in structure to Kakao’s bank-plus-app ecosystem.
Products
Products span P2P transfers, bank accounts, cards, loans, securities trading (Toss Securities), insurance shopping and bill management inside the Toss app.
